Electro Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy

The Electro-Acuscope is a highly sophisticated electronic medical instrument, which is design to scan and treat many types of pain. It is one of a class of electrical stimulators called T.E.N.S. (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.), which uses electricity to treat pain by stimulating the nervous system of your body without puncturing the skin.

The Electro Acuscope system is the most technologically advanced and effective form of T.E.N.S therapy available in health care today. The Acuscope has both diagnostic and therapeutic functions. It actually provides feedback to the unit, which indicates the location of the aberration or pathological condition or area of pain. It also tells the therapist when an area has been successfully treated.

NASA and the Sports World have long been aware of the benefits of applying electrical currents to the body to heal or induce fast deep healing. In the late 1970s an advanced electromedicine device called the Electro-Acuscope / Myopulse was introduced. Even though the FDA approved the medicine for humans since 1970, the medical profession has managed to downplay and discourage the use of electricity or magnetism in healing.

Utilizing many of the principles discovered through bio-electric research, the Acuscope was highlighted in Sports Illustrated when Terry Bradshaw, quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers used it to heal his throwing arm.

In the 1983 Football Season, Terry Bradshaw’s right arm was so sore from off-season elbow surgery and strained triceps that it was virtually useless. After one treatment, he had 60% relief from the pain and swelling. On the next day he had received 80% relief. Ten days later, Bradshaw was able to play professional football again! Terry commented on the Electro-Acuscope: It takes away the pain almost immediately. I mean it really works on the root of the pain I’ve had four treatments as of this date and threw today with no pain -zero-no pain at all.

Not limited to football superstars, other athletes began using it. Professional golfer Jack Nicklaus credited the Acuscope for extended his golfing career: I’m not sure how much longer I would have played golf if I hadn’t started on his program two years ago. I’ve gotten tremendous results. I had this excruciating pain in my elbow for well over year and half, and they put me on the Acuscope and Myopulse for two three treatments and it was gone in a week.

The Electro-Acuscope was also used by the San Francisco 49’ers to accelerate the healing of Joe Montana’s post-surgical right elbow. He was back playing 4 weeks later, and took them to the Super Bowl that year, and they won! It has also been widely used by the US Olympic Ski Team, the Shreveport Bone and Joint Clinic, Texas A & M University, Louisiana State University, and many doctors, chiropractors, and physical therapist. Praised by professional athletes for its fast healing ability, it is finally being acknowledged for its unique healing capabilities, and is now being made available to the general public!

The unique feature of the Acuscope which sets it apart from the other electrical stimulation devices is the microchip circuitry designed to monitor the tissue places between the probes. Based on the information it gathers, the unit is programmed to calculate appropriate corrective feedback modulated waveform variance, which are specific and unique to each tissue cellular type. Another electrical stimulation units produce a fixed output according to preset specifications.

The Acuscope picks up abnormalities in nerve fiber impulses and modifies its infinitely variable "square wave envelope" output appropriately, until normal waveform patters are conducted without resistance through the tissue. The Acuscope reads neurological impedance along the current flow and can discriminate points of high or low resistance.

Incorporating advanced electronic technology; the Electro-Acuscope detects subtle electrical blockages and imbalances in the painful areas of the body. This can be heard as a low pitched tone from the instrument’s biofeedback sound mechanisms, and as numbers shown on the lighted digital display which ranges from 1 to 100.

When the tissue of the painful area being treated has returned to its normal conductive electrical state, the instrument gives a clear, high pitched tone and the lighted numbers on the instrument give a read out consistently over 100. Most patients find it interesting to see and hear this process occur as they are being treated and relief from pain generally occurs at this time or soon after.

The Acuscope does not heal. It makes the body heal itself stimulating the supply of energy, which in turn, increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the involved area. No drugs or needles are used in the treatment. It is effective in the treatment of many types of tissue damage and is a particularly useful therapy for swelling, inflammation, and soreness. There is no danger of over-treatment; the machine can not cause damage to the tissue.

Microcurrent Stimulation

The most conspicuous-contributing factor of the system’s effectiveness is the limited level of electricity generated by the system-measured in microamps (millionths of an amp), an extremely tiny amount of current. It has been scientifically proven that this level of current produces the most beneficial effect on the body’s cells. Even some of the most conservative medical pain management facilities now accept the concept of micro-current stimulation, because the validity of consistent results cannot be denied.

The modalities area applied primarily for pain relief, to improve soft tissue function and increase range of motion. Numerous recent studies show that micro-current stimulation has a profoundly beneficial effect on living tissue at the cellular level. Micro-amperage (below 1 milliamp) is the naturally occurring level of current generated throughout the body. With this in mind, it is easy to understand why supplying the kind of current naturally occurring in healthy tissue promotes regenerative metabolic activity.

Pain Reduction Therapy

The human body is made up of a vast numbers of cells. In many ways, the cells of the human body act like tiny batteries, storing and releasing energy. Each cell has a measurable electrical charge, which is unique and specific to that cellular type. There is a constant flow of energy maintained between cells throughout the electricity of the body. When damage or trauma occurs, there is a disruption in the production of this electricity and a measurable decrease in the flow of energy through the tissue involved. This condition is generally accompanied by a sensation of pain in the area and usually results in the body’s inability to readily heal itself.

During treatment, the Electo-Acuscope introduces mild electrical currents into the cells of your body in order to return the tissue to a normal level of electrical activity. This process may be likened to a "jump start" or "putting a charge" on the battery of a car. In this way, the instrument assists the body in accelerating the natural self-healing processes.

In addition to providing the body with beneficial electrical currents that create cellular harmony, the treatment causes that body to produce its own natural pain reducing chemicals called "endorphins’-a product of balanced calcium ionic fields around the cells. The immediate pain relieving results of an Acuscope treatment may therefore be considered an electro-chemical response occurring in the involved area at a cellular level.

In contrast to all other milli-amperage nerve stimulation devices (ordinary TENS) designed to bombard the tissue and block pain signals from reaching the brain, the Acuscope generates only the level of current required to gently encourage nervefiber to return to conduction of normal electrical impulses.

A series of treatments have a cumulative effect unlike ordinary TENS devices which provide only temporary relief. The treatments greatly reduce common pain and swelling, and increase range of motion limitations associated with many joint pathologies.

By definition, the cumulative effect means that each treatment of a given area will take a shorter amount of time, and the pain relief which follows will last longer and longer. Unlike other forms of pain relief, such as therapy with certain drugs, the body does not build up a tolerance to Acuscope treatments. In fact, just the opposite effect occurs.

Mild current electrical stimulation has been proven harmonize the cells of the body to produce chemicals which are responsible for cellular energy production, and may be thought of as the fuel which allows the cells to begin to repair themselves. As these chemical reactions build up, the body’s response to each treatment becomes stronger and stronger and the pain relief lasts longer. With each treatment the tissues are able to repair themselves more completely, and in most cases, a series of treatments leads to permanent relief and/or greatly diminished levels of pain.

Application Techniques:

Treatment is accomplished by the use of various types of electrodes, which have been designed by a team of biomedical engineers. This variety in application allows versatility in selecting the most appropriate and effective probe, plate or roller for the treatment. The probes (or electrodes) and skin is generally moistened with one of two types of specially formulated wetting solution to enhance bioelectric conduction. One formulation is open wounds and the other is for intact skin. Some patients with swelling and extreme sensitivity to touch may experience some discomfort from the pressure of the probes. Most patients, however, feel only a gentle or firm pressure at the points of contact, or the massaging effect of some of the larger, rounded probes. Contact pads may be taped in place to provide extended stimulation to a specific area in need of prolonged treatment. Your hands, feet or other surfaces may be placed in contact with the large brass plates; or you may be treated with a headband or ear clip set to produce overall body relief or relaxation. Whichever attachment is used with the Electro-Acuscope, the experience of treatment is generally quite comfortable, most often even enjoyable.

Painless Treatment:

Usually, Acuscope and Myopulse treatments are painless. A tiny pulse, vibration, or just a slight current slightly pricking the skin are what some patients report feeling. During treatment, most patients feel nothing except relief and report only the sensations of general relaxation, warmth, or an alternation, tingling pulse in the area being treated. If there is any discomfort what-so-ever, your doctor or therapist can simply adjust the settings to your comfort.

There are no true side effects; that is, there are no long-term side effects. Some temporary discomfort may be experienced after the treatment. The possibilities include headache, nausea, and increased pain. Fortunately these side effects are rare and usually occur, if at all, following the first one to three treatments only. Any change, including temporary increased discomfort, is a good sign. It shows change is going on in your body. Almost everyone who feels some increases in pain immediately or soon after the first treatment has a decreased long-term pain response.
